A new model of close aquaculture
(Vasep, July 19, 2010)
In order to clarify supply chain traceability of imported Vietnamese Pangasius the U.S. importer Mazzetta Company and Viet Nam-based seafood supplier Amanda Foods have announced they intend to cooperate with Vietnamese feed producer Proconco to train fish breeders to farm and process Pangasius in accordance with U.S. standards.

The trio of companies will support farmers in a Mekong Delta province by setting up a closed aquaculture program called “From Farm to Table”.

The chosen province will become a pioneer in applying this concept, which will integrate high-quality feed, standardized farming processes, use of approved processing factories, and the establishment of product brands.

Once the new model is deemed a success, Mazzetta has said it will ramp up its imports of Vietnamese Pangasius from the current 600MT to 1,000MT per month.

The program will later be expanded across the delta. (VietFishNews)
