The devaluation of EUR against US$, debt crisis, and falling price were three major causes for the decrease in Pangasius imports of some EU countries, said Mr.Duong Viet Thang, Deputy Director of South Vina. As a consequence, many seafood exporters, including South Vina, became discreet when exporting to EU, and shipped less to this market.
In the first five months of 2010, South Vina exported more than 5,000MT of Pangasius, valued more than US$11 million. In May alone, it shipped more than 1,800MT of finished products, worth US$4 million to Canada, the U.S., Italy, Mexico, Belgium, etc. Thang predicted South Vina’s export value in June and July will be much higher.
